Did the T Operator Fail to Hang up and Drive?

1212089435Shuttle buses continue to run on the D Line this afternoon as the National Transportation Safety Board looks into what caused yesterday’s fatal collision of two trains on the Green Line. The train that Terrese Edmonds was driving remains on the tracks and investigators are looking into reports that Edmonds may have been on her cell phone when the accident occurred. Everyone’s Crazy About Sex

Posted by Amy Derjue on 5/29/2008 at 2:18PM | No Comments

1212083686Like a lot of people we can’t wait to see the Sex and the City movie. It’s all the heavy drinking, frustration with men, and female bonding we crave, except in a different city and dressed in much nicer clothes. (Speaking of the wardrobe, we’re counting down our favorite Carrie Bradshaw ensembles on Bostonista.)

So we’re pretty excited for the movie. Note that we said excited. Not insane. Some Sex fans have crossed into stark raving lunacy in advance of the movie’s release tomorrow.

Pistons-Celtics: See You Sunday

Posted by Paul Flannery on 5/29/2008 at 11:54AM | No Comments

1190922388In the immediate aftermath of the Celtics’ game 5 win over Detroit last night, visiting reporters made plans for a return engagement to our fair city. Let’s face it: No one expects the C’s to win in Detroit tomorrow, but that’s a discussion for later. Today, we have the resurrection of Ray Allen, the Dave Cowens-esque performance by Kendrick Perkins, and the gritty 13-assist, one turnover effort turned in by Rajon Rondo.

Oh, and Kevin Garnett had a game for the ages, Rasheed Wallace went all Sheed on the officials, and then there’s the injury to Rip Hamilton. Game 7′s are treated as sacred things, but Game 5′s seem to bring out the mania in a long series, and last night’s 3-hour-plus marathon was certainly manic. Tragedy on the Green Line

Posted by Amy Derjue on 5/29/2008 at 10:56AM | No Comments

1212072718Last night, I had another frustrating commute home. I waited at North Station as several trains came through with not one of them heading to Lechmere. When I eventually made it home, I turned on the TV and suddenly didn’t mind the delay so much when I saw the coverage of the Green Line crash in Newton.

Kapoor at the ICA: A Dizzying Display

Posted by Joe Keohane on 5/29/2008 at 10:46AM | No Comments

1212068750I’ll be the first to admit I know next to nothing about art, yet I still insist on visiting museums several times a year, so my opinions, if not valuable, may not be entirely worthless. With that said, the Anish Kapoor exhibit, which opened last night at the ICA, is the best art experience I have had in years.

Even without an art vocabulary, it’s next to impossible to describe, so I apologize in advance. According to the ICA, “Kapoor’s sculpture seems to disappear, dissolve, levitate, or extend beyond a space the viewer can perceive.” Which seems accurate. Best. Cullen. Column. Ever.

Posted by Amy Derjue on 5/29/2008 at 10:23AM | No Comments

In the June issue of Boston magazine, John Gonzalez takes the Globe columnists to task for writing pieces that are “more Oprah than Oliphant.” We’re sad to report that Gonz is out on assignment today, so he can’t personally congratulate Kevin Cullen for writing the column we knew he had in him. (Though he would like to add that calling him “Gonzo” on the radio isn’t a requirement — the “o” part is optional.)

1212070412Seriously, Kevin. Well done. This is the most ballsy, passionate column you’ve penned in months.

John Kerry: Secretary of State?

Posted by Amy Derjue on 5/28/2008 at 3:30PM | No Comments

1212003225There’s been a lot of talk about Mitt Romney being John McCain’s running mate, but the former governor isn’t the only local politician who might be heading for a high-profile national gig.

The Associated Press (via the Herald’s web site) speculates that Sen. John Kerry might be Secretary of State if Barack Obama becomes president.
