Backstreet’s Back! Not All Right!

1224702797Tampa Bay may have had a better baseball team than Boston (this year), but holy hell, do the musical acts that will perform the National Anthem at the first two games of the World Series suck.

Multi-platinum pop group Backstreet Boys, with Tampa native Nick Carter, will perform the U.S. National Anthem prior to Game One of the 2008 World Series at Tropicana Field. Grammy Award-winning group Los Lonely Boys will perform the U.S. National Anthem prior to Game Two of the 2008 World Series.

See what you get for rooting against the Red Sox, America? You get Nick Carter, who is the only person on this planet more punchable than Matt Garza.

Just think of the great Boston-based acts you could have enjoyed had the World Series taken place in Boston. (It shouldn’t be too hard to remember since we’ve represented the American League in the Series twice this decade. Just saying.)

Middle-aged women can enjoy the dulcet sounds of James Taylor. The young folks dig that nice JoJo girl from Foxboro. Aged rockers lose their composure when Steven Tyler belts out God Bless America during the 7th Inning Stretch.

But this year would have been extra special, since New Kids on the Block have reunited. You know the boys, who are fiercely proud of their Boston roots, would have taken the time to do a little song and dance on top of the dugout for the fans and everybody watching at home. Also, “Step by Step” is a way better pop song than “Everybody (Backstreet’s Back).”

So enjoy that ’90s boy band that isn’t ‘N Sync, losers. We’ll catch you in Philly, where we hope to see Boyz II Men bring Motown Philly back again.
