Committee for Small Government Goes for Broke

1224686225The only campaign unraveling faster than that of John McCain is the Committee for Small Government’s quest to repeal the Massachusetts income tax. When we last left our ragtag band of anti-tax crusaders, they were engaging in some very sketchy math to plead their case to voters.

This morning, PolitickerMA reports the group is out of cash.

“[W]e paid $47,700 for advertising,” Carla Howell and Michael Cloud, the committee’s leaders, wrote. “It was every dime we had. We are out of money. Flat broke.”

Broke like the state would be if this cockamamie measure passes? About that broke, Carla?

We understand the appeal of not paying income tax. We even cracked a few jokes in which we said we hoped the measure passed in order to watch the calamity that would ensue. But with $1 billion in cuts to the state budget already bringing the hurt to our services, even we no longer find it funny.

Also, do you really want to get on board with a measure that Howie Carr supports?

Come up with a way for me to protect local aid funds from the Peabody Police Union and I will support THAT proposal instead.
