The Dubious Facebook Pages of Public Officials: Matt Amorello Edition

1225742071Back in June, we were surprised to learn that MBTA General Manager Dan Grabauskas had a Facebook page. Unfortunately, Grabauskas himself was equally as shocked by the page’s existence, and the fraudulent profile has since been removed.

So you’ll have to excuse us for being a little skeptical when one of our friends added former Turnpike Authority Chairman Matt Amorello as a friend on the social networking site.

If it’s not Amorello, whoever created the page sure knows the foe of former governor Mitt Romney very well. His birthday matches up with the one listed on Wikipedia. A WCVB bio of Amorello shows that his educational information is correct. (Of course, a faux-Amorello would also have access to these sites.)

But perhaps the most compelling case for this being the real Amorello is his friend list. Since he joined the site at 10:37 this morning, Massachusetts Republican Party chairman Peter Torkildsen has friended him, as has Bechtel lobbyist Andrew Paven and state senator Bob Hedlund.

We’ve messaged the alleged Amorello to see if it’s really him. We’ll let you know if and when we hear back. And if it is you, Matt, put a picture up, for the love of God.

Everyone knows a imageless page is a Facebook faux-pas.
