An A+ Day for Q Microbe
In the November issue of Boston magazine, Tom Matlack wrote about “Q,” a microbe discovered in the Quabbin Reservoir that produces pure ethanol from plant waste. As the future of American automakers looks increasingly bleak and interest in alternative fuel technologies continues to grow, this super-efficient little microbe could soon become a big player.
Today, the company that’s been researching Q got a big infusion of funding and a new name.
SunEthanol got $25 million from a consortium of investors including BP and liberal activist George Soros’ investment firm, and has changed its name to Qteros.
It’s good to know someone other than NESN reporters are doing well in this bad economic climate. But in a press release, Qteros founder and vice president Jef Sharp says that’s just how incredible this creature is.
“This investment in Qteros during difficult financial times is a reminder that new technologies will be the generators of the clean tech future. Qteros’ success will help to ignite the next economic expansion while helping to solve climate change and sustainable energy challenges.”
We look forward to seeing what $25 million, a dedicated team of scientists, and an incredible microorganism can do together.
