MORE FROM THE ANNALS OF RECESSION CHIC…

1226333420Turns out you don’t have to be up to your pocket-scarf in old money to dress like a classy WASP.

The enduringly dapper Joe Ferrarro, once named by the Globe as one of Boston’s best dressed, dishes out candid advice on how to be the snazziest budget-minded sartorialist in town on his blog, An Affordable Wardrobe: Dressing Like a Gentleman on a Chimneysweep’s Funds. BOSTONISTA DOES NOT LOVE: THAT DIRTY WATER

Posted by Brigid Sweeney on 11/7/2008 at 3:38PM | 1 Comment

1226086668Since we’re the first to admit when we’re slow on the upswing, we’re also allowed to brag when we come in way ahead of the curve, right?

Right.

Our latest visionary moment involves…water.

Because Bostonista HQ houses a fervent environmentalist, a couple of germaphobes, someone raised by a cancer survivor, and a devoted reader of the most insane health column ever, we were all over the bisphenol/toxic plastic/Nalgene problem well before BPA-free water bottles started popping up at Target.

INDIE DESIGNERS ABUZZ AT DESIGN HIVE

Posted by admin on 11/6/2008 at 4:09PM | No Comments

1225825507Lunch tables were swapped for racks of fashion forward designs at Cambridge’s Baldwin School this past Saturday, as the grade school’s cafeteria transformed into an indie fashion mecca for the Design Hive Market.

E-commerce marketing consultant, Val Fox, organized the indoor shopping spree, which will take place every Saturday from 10 a.m.-5 p.m., now through December 20. With new designer goods being added each week, it gives us an excuse to make multiple stops throughout the holiday season for gift-giving and self-indulgent purchases. A NIGHT AT THE THEATER

Posted by Sascha de Gersdorff on 11/4/2008 at 2:46PM | No Comments

1225824344Outside of low-budget school plays and small-town versions of the Nutcracker, it had been some time since we’d taken in a real production, so we were eager to attend Carrie Fishers Wishful Drinking.

For those Bostonistas old enough to remember, Fisher, the offspring of actress Debbie Reynolds and singer Eddie Fisher, was the sultry/cranky Princess Leia before she got into drugs, was diagnosed with bi-polar disorder, and dropped off the face of the planet.

Now, she’s back, touring America with her one-woman show and offering up a few laughs about her whole ordeal. (Sounds a lot like a certain someone else we know—we’re looking at you, Britney.)

YOUR TUESDAY TO-DO LIST

Posted by Alyssa Giacobbe on 11/3/2008 at 12:45PM | No Comments

1225730694If you only do two things tomorrow, that’s fine. Just make them count. We’ll make it easy for you:

1. Vote for Barack!
Unless you’d be happy to see Bostonista move to Switzerland, and you very well may be, please help implement change tomorrow. That’s all we’ll say on that and no, it’s not because we’ve got a problem with red skirt suits. (Though, separately, we probably do.) Continue reading “Your Tuesday To-Do List” »
