ALL THE NEWS THAT’S FIT TO EAT

Posted by Amy Derjue on 10/14/2008 at 11:36AM | No Comments

Keeping track of Boston’s dining scene can feel almost as daunting as finding a use for all those apples you picked this weekend. Chowder scours the Internet for the latest good news and monkeying around.

Good News
Esquire has named Scampo one of the Top 20 best new restaurants in America. Food and Travel Correspondent John Mariani cites the hazelnut risotto and black pig chop as great dishes to try.

With winter fast approaching, we’re always looking for restaurants that have convenient parking. On those days where slogging through the South End or Kenmore Square is just too much, we can still get our fix of French food. Petit Robert Bistro will open its third location in Needham this week.

Everyone will have champagne on New Year’s Eve. Truly impress your guests with Chocolee’s Champagne and Caviar Truffles. The bubbly is whipped with creme to form a ganache, and is paired with air-dried caviar. The store is now accepting orders for the holidays.

CHOWDER RAVE: ALCHEMIST BRUNCH

Posted by Donna Garlough on 10/13/2008 at 11:23AM | 1 Comment

1223913264As everyone around me knows, I’ll soon be leaving my current digs in JP and moving across the city. And it’s starting to stress me out a little—not just the idea of packing and hauling all my stuff, but the fact that I still have a lot of eating to do before I go.

While I won’t miss that chicken smell, I’ll be leaving behind plenty of Chowder faves: Canto 6, Ula Cafe, City Feed, Bella Luna (which has a newish chef, Jacob Zachow) the Behan pub, etc.

And, of course, there’s the Alchemist. Continue reading “Chowder Rave: Alchemist Brunch” »

LOCAL HEROES

Posted by Amy Traverso on 10/8/2008 at 2:55PM | No Comments

1223492142I’m ready to move to Hardwick, VT, after reading today’s story in the Times about how its savvy community of farmers, restaurateurs, and entrepreneurs are turning this corner of northern Vermont into a sort of innovation laboratory—and reviving the local economy in the process. A great reminder that eating local really can make a difference.

Hardwick is home to one of my favorite quirky little New England gems: Perennial Pleasures, a gardening shop and nursery where British native Judith Kane serves traditional English tea in the lush gardens, where chickens roam around pecking at the grass. Continue reading “Local Heroes” »
